Beadlow Manor took advantage of their runners up position in the Tavistock Trophy to enter the National Junior Team Golf event which in 2017 had taken them to Portugal and eventually to become UK champions.

In the first regional event of this year’s competition the Beadlow Manor team of Ben Loveard, Jack Munson, Harry Lake, George Tebbutt, Robbie Simpson and Ed Tubridy made the trip to High Post GC in Salisbury (Sun 22 Sep) to compete in the South West Eastern qualifier. The competition format requires 5 scores (from 6) being used (1 gross, 4 nett) to determine the overall team score.

A notable obstacle for Beadlow Manor juniors was the team from Bramshaw who had won the UK title in 2018, retaining 5 of the players who had won that event and as such they represented a massive challenge. This became even more evident when their number one player (Joe Buenfeld, hcp 2) returned a four under gross 66 to register their first score. Nonetheless, a gross 71 from Loveard (hcp 1), followed by a nett 68 from Munson kept the Bedfordshire team in contention, with a nett 78 score from either Lake (hcp 10) or Tebbutt (hcp 14) counting, the result came down to the final two players on the course.

Simpson (hcp 17) played some beautiful golf throughout and when he finished with an incredible nett 63 the result was in the balance, but a nett 70 from Tubridy (hcp 19 but playing off a max 18 on the day) gave Beadlow Manor an overall level par total of 350 stunning Bramshaw into second place, who themselves had returned a very good score of 355. The result sees Beadlow Manor qualify for the South West semi-final to be played at Enmore Park GC in Bridgwater, Somerset on Sun 13 Oct.
